Inspiration in the Unexpected

The last few posts have been about goals for the new year .  The goals have been made and listed and are now being fulfilled.  The time has come to return to my main focus of finding inspiration in the midst of normal life.

Today is the first Saturday of January.  It’s a good day to relax in some comfortable clothes while I watch the Wild Card NFL play-off games.  I could easily write about this time and the inspiration of it.  However, that is not my subject today.

I want to look at the overall flow of yesterday.  It is still vacation for my kiddos.  They both start back this coming Monday.  So, Friday was a time to meet with friends and do various activities, along with a bit of studying.  On top of this reality is the fact that my daughter’s best friend was in town.  My daughter had set up an itinerary for six teenage girls to bowl, hang out at Starbuck, have a sleepover with ice cream.

You might wonder about inspiration in this description.  It’s all about flexibility.  When that many young  girls are coming to an event not long planned there will always be changes on the fly. The first  change was how to get the guest of honor to the events.  That was worked out.  Next came when we got to the bowling alley to find it was totally booked and needed to shift to an other alley 255 minutes away.  That alley had an hour wait but the manager said it was 20 minutes.

All these changes took an extra 2 hours I had not planned into my schedule.   Yet the whole event was one of peace and excitement for me.  When one thing or another changed I realized everything was fine and going as needed.

So the inspiration from this time was to find flexibility in the midst of many changes out of my control.  Learning to be at peace in the midst of external change out of your control is a very good thing.  It is in those times that my comfort and importance take a back seat to something of deeper importance.

I learned this about myself in the journey to inspiration but I also learned of the importance of making connections in relationship for other people.  It’s not relevant if those others completely appreciate what they are receiving.  It’s nice when other do appreciate but that is not the point.  The point is whether I appreciate what I am doing and I am giving.

The  inspiration in this example comes from appreciating my own ability to give of time and heart and presence for the betterment of another.  Life provides inspiration all the time if I am aware.  God provides inspiration all the time if I am aware.  Inspiration comes through awareness.  Inspiration comes through forgiveness.  Inspiration comes through thankfulness.  Inspiration comes through humility.

It’s when I see the gift than I experience the deeper gift of God in the inspiration.  He has given all to me and for me.  What is it for me to give time and energy to and for another.  It becomes a way to live out what I believe and what a gift is that!

May you receive blessings and inspiration in the reading.
